An Important Microwave Oven Warning
My friend Susan sent me the following email, and I offer the information for your safety:

Noah,
For years I have heeded the warning "do not boil clear liquid in the microwave without first putting something in it."  I have always tossed one or two toothpicks into any liquid which I was bringing to a boil in the microwave. Last Saturday I failed to put my regular toothpicks in, and you guessed it - after about four minutes there was an explosion that blew the door open and shot two cups of boiling liquid across my kitchen at eye level height.  Fortunately for me, I was leaning to the side to retrieve a baster and was out of the line of fire. Thought this might serve as a warning for all my friends.
Susan
