12 bell peppers (medium size)

2 tablespoons oil

2 sliced onions

3 cups canned tomatoes

3 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoons pepper

Beef bones

1 pound ground beef

3 tablespoons uncooked rice

4 tablespoons grated onion

1 egg

3 tablespoons water

3 tablespoons sugar or honey

1/4 cup lemon juice

1/4 cup raisins

Remove pepper stems and scoop out seeds. Brown onions in oil in deep, heavy saucepan. Add tomatoes, half the salt, pepper, and bones. Cook for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

Mix beef, rice, onion, egg, remaining salt and water. Stuff peppers with meat mixture. Place peppers in sauce, cover, and cook over low heat for 1-1/2 hours. Add sugar or honey, lemon juice and raisins. Cover and cook 30 minutes longer.
