The 2004 election is over – let's pray

Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishes will not take the place of deeds; a son who will know Thee—and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge. Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clear; whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past. And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously.

Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, and the meekness of true strength. Then, I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain.”

––– This Father's Prayer was written by General DOUGLAS MAC ARTHUR during the days of the desperate campaigns in the Far East in World War II.

THIS IS NOT SOUR GRAPES The voters have voted and now we must get down on our knees and pray that our nation will survive for another four years with George W. Bush as president. I doubt if we, the only super power in the world, can maintain that title at the end of four more years with George W. Bush and his lying thugs. The people will have very little clout over Bush now since he doesn't need anymore votes.

What did George W. Bush do right since the US Supreme Court appointed him president? I have thought long and hard and I don't know of anything good that is worth "writing home" about. Sen. John Kerry told the truth about the failure of Bush during the campaign and it's too bad that you ignored what he said and voted for Bush.

Those who voted for Bush have no voice to complain when more things go wrong, and they will go wrong - dead wrong. The space does not allow me to tell you again all the bad things he did. Those of you that believe he has been a good president let me sell you a mountain in Florida .

The citizens of America had the right to vote for the person(s) and party of their choice, but those of you that voted for Bush, are living in a different world, or you are still wet behind the ears. When I joined the U.S. Marine Corps in the early '40s I could hear people saying, "You'll be sorry." I now can say that to you.

If you voted for Bush, don't cry and whine when things get worse, and I will bet my farm and best Tennessee mule that they will. You've made your bed and now you must sleep in it. We were offered a chance to elect a real president and you failed by not electing John F. Kerry and his running mate John Edwards.

WE MUST PRAY: "I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid?"
---- BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, debates in the Constitutional Convention, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 28, 1787.

James Madison Journal of the Convention
Franklin suggests that the Convention begin its sessions with prayers "exploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations."

Had I but serv'd my God with half the zeal I serv'd my king,
He would not in mine age Have left me naked to mine enemies

During the NIXON Watergate hearings, on June 12, 1973, Senator Sam Ervin quoted these words:

Show me the manner in which a nation
or community cares for its dead, and I
will measure with mathematical exactness
the tender mercies of its people, their
respect for the laws of the land, and their
loyalty to high ideals.
----William Gladstone

gave us a brain to think with.
Some of us "fell asleep at the wheel."

May God bless us and forgive us...
